I’m a freelance writer currently based in Los Angeles. I’ve lived and studied in Turkey, China, and Brazil, and often write from abroad about contemporary art and culture. As a contributing writer at W, I write about people and places in and around L.A. My writing and criticism has also appeared in/at Artforum, the Guardian, NYLON, Vogue, the New York Times, WSJ. Magazine, Poetry Foundation, and Tin House, among lots of other publications. I also occasionally take on freelance editing projects for magazines, galleries, startups, and the like.
Before freelancing full-time, I worked as an editor at Aperture Foundation and before that at Artnews. I graduated from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism with degrees in magazine journalism and in English with honors.
If you’d like me to write for you, get in touch via my contact page. Oh, and I also go by Ali.
